Week Eight and Feelin' Great!

Thanks Dean, the Six Packs and Fitness For You for an awesome 8 weeks of Team in Training! I haven't looked, weighed or felt this good since before I had kids (nine years ago). It was just the kick in the pants I needed! I can't believe it's over - I will definitely miss it!
Well Worth It!!!

Great job Five for Fighting Team and to our trainer Lisa I thank you for your motivation and for really pushing me to the limit. I am really happy with my results and look forward to keeping up with the great exercises that I learned. Looking forward to our celebration at PF Changs!!!!!

FINISH LINE...

...Great job 5 for Fighting right up until the last minute of the last day of session one. And a congrats to all teams for their hard work and comraderie. A note for thought:

It's not always about how you started or where you ended,
but about the journey you each took to get there.
Whether you lost 5 pounds or 25 pounds,
10 inches or 4inches,
Each and everyone of you put the time and effort,
the heart and soul to making each workout count,
and that my fitness frinds is where it's at,
A journey well traveled.

Congratulations to each and everyone of you!

Six Packs!

Fantastic finish, ladies...congratulations! Thanks to Dean for all his enthusiasm and personality to keep us motivated and eager to push our limits. I am so ready for a rest but looking forward to another round and set of goals with my six pack friends. This will be a highlight of 2010!

Week 8 - Epilogue

Ah, my Team Training friends......here we are. What to say, what to say? It's been a blast and, in the spirit of the awards season presently upon us (Up In the Air, by the by, was the best movie of the year and I won't be convinced otherwise), I will use my Week 8 blog to give my Best Exercise award.

The nominees for Best Exercise are:

1. The Hall of Death (popularized by the ancient Mandarin tradition of carrying large water buckets up long flights of stairs, reinvented by OBC in the form of carrying heavy weights while lunging up and down the gym while treadmillers laugh at you, and then jumping onto a speeding treadmill....and early favorite).

2. The Upper Junk Killers (who the hell knows where this one came from, but it involves placing a too-big exercise ball between your feet while lying flat on your back, engaging your abs and junk region, and lifting said ball toward said junk repeatedly until you blackout...also a good one).

3. The Slippery Step Move of Death (only available in your local BodyStep class, this involves sweating a quart of fluid onto the floor around you for forty minutes, only to realize you have done this when OBC turns on the "speed step" track and you spend the ensuing three minutes trying to run, not slip, and not die while smiling because OBC gets mad when you don't smile).

4. Planking - front and side (we all know this one....theorized to engage your core, planking was first discovered in Dante's fifth circle of hell on the other side of the river styx...planking is horrible, utterly and completely...planking is like country music mixed with waterboarding multiplied by Kara DioGuardi).

And the winner is.....wait for it....

THE FUN EXERCISE BALL Sitty-Standy Uppy Thing!!!! Wow...a complete under dog. Congratulations exercise ball, you rule, and all of RK2 can now do this.

Congrats to all on an awesome eight weeks. Let's do it again sometime.

Team Fired Up! last chance workout

Team Fired Up worked hard this morning for our last chance workout! Just wanted to thank the team for their never ending support. I never would have done it without you. To our fearless leader Kristin, who continuously found a way to push me well beyond what I thought I could do, my many thanks, gratitude and better form...Rest up for the next round!

It's over Team Six Pack

Well I find myself typing this with a heavy heart! The final workout was today and we all weighed in- the fantastic news is that we all kicked butt on the scale! I am not going to give anything away since other teams have yet to finish but what a great inspirational bunch we all are! The change in our bodies and our strength has been amazing and we can all do some much more now than 8 short weeks ago! We are now going to give our bodies a well deserved break but hopefully we can all do another round of Team Training in the near future. Thanks to Dean for being a great trainer and to the rest of the six packers for being so dedicated and motivational. See you all at the gym very soon.

Wk 8 - still standing

Can't believe it's already week 8. After Monday's workout (Royalty)I thought I was gonna die but just pushed through and I'm still standing (not necessarily walking real well but standing:) So glad I stuck with this 8 wk program. Doubt I would have been so committed on my own. Every tough moment has been worth it. (yeah, even w/all my moaning and groaning) And I'm so happy to say that two thirds of Team Royalty will be back to kick all the other team's butts in Round Two - Val, we'll miss you; your strength and commitment is inspirational. Looking forward to what Kristin has in store for us....look out Charlene...we're coming after you and won't settle for 2nd place, it's Team Royalty out in front from beginning to end!!!!! Thanks for a great 8 weeks!

Turn up your workouts even MORE with HIIT

EX-30 - Fitness For You's NEW HIIT PROGRAM - SIGN UP HERE ONLINE If you don't see a time that works for you please e-mail kristin at kristin@fitnessforyougym.com and we will try to open a time that will work for you!

If you want to take your fitness and fat loss to the next level—without spending more time in the gym—then
high intensity interval training (also known as HIIT) could be exactly what you're looking for.

What are a few of the benefits of HIIT?

  • HIIT increases the amount of calories you burn during your exercise session and afterward because it increases the length of time it takes your body to recover from each exercise session.
  • HIIT causes metabolic adaptations that enable you to use more fat as fuel under a variety of conditions. This will improve your athletic endurance as well as your fat-burning potential.

Sniff, Sniff...can't believe the end is almost here

After seven incredible weeks, I've had fun, worked hard, felt stronger, ate better (well, relatively better - I have cut back on my chocolate intake!), enjoyed the camaderie of the six-packs and appreciated Dean's enthusiasm and leadership. I'm really sad that we are heading into our last week - can't believe it! Our team has enjoyed team training so much that we are talking about starting up again in mid-April (the new start date feels too soon for any of us between our schedules and our bodies). So I'm psyched for this last push and to hopefully be rewarded by some dropped LBS and body fat. THANKS DEAN AND TEAM SIX-PACK for all your support, good humor, and motivation - you guys are the BEST!

Six Pack-Girly,Girls!

Another fun and challenging workout. My teammates look amazing and we all feel stronger. We'd like to sign up as a group but the next session starts too soon. We need a rest, time to play and the chance to enjoy the accomplishment. All work and no play is boring!

Running fun

We had a mini-hurricaine here on Roatan last night, with unbelievable winds and torrential downpours. This morning the wind is still here and the wind is still roaring, creating awesome waves, and making running on the beach a challenge. So, I made up a new workout: how close can I run along to the water without getting my feet wet by the rolling, unpredicatble waves. It sure was different than a treadmill!
I'm wondering what my Five For Fighting teammates have been up to and what Lisa has in store for them tonight.....

OY!

Week 7 is officially kicking my a&# - I just took my first class with Roque and I'm totally whipped ... even 2 hours later I'm still warm! It's great to be seeing results finally and I'm definitely signing up for the next round ... I've been more consistent and committed that I would have been on my own.

Ricky ... I hope you managed to stay awake for your brief yesterday ... Kelly O ... I only hope I can one day live up to your # of days in the gym record! You guys are an inspriation and I've never laughed so hard while working out ... it's a shame we don't get points for how much fun we have! Go Team RK2!!!

The Last Stretch!

OK week 7 is upon us and I can't quite believe that this time next week our workouts with Dean and Team Six Pack will come to an end. What a great experience this has been and I am actually sad that it is coming to an end. We all feel so much stronger and healthier for doing this so come the weigh in - we will hopefully be rewarded for our efforts but in the big picture of things at least we have improved in mind and matter as well as strength and we know deep down we tried our best and we all look amazing even if the scale is not our best friend. SO Team let's make one last big effort this week - watch out Rickey!(hope all is well by the way with baby Drake- I will sure miss your blogs each week!). Have a great week everyone!

Week 6 - Sleepy Causes Late Blogging

A happy week seven to everyone. On the sixth week of team training, my true love gave to me......A BABY!!!!! He is wonderful, awesome, perfect, beautiful, and everything we could have wished for. Thank you all for your well wishes and support to me and my family over the past few days.

Needless to say, my new bundle of joy affected my Week 6 progress, affected in that I had very little. But, watch out Julie's, because I'M BACK! Although, I will have to switch to the 8am classes (sorry Charlene). I'm crazy sleepy, so I'll leave it at that. Keep going everyone!

P.S. - Poor hospital food and unending attention on my son led to a lack of eating last week, and I'm down a good bit! Nice!

All Fired Up!

Looking forward to our workout tomorrow. We will be banding for our upper body workout...

Had a difficult time last weekend away. It is so very hard when you are out of your element.

I just keep reminding myself, "Treat your body like a temple NOT a tent".

Hola to my teammates!

Hola from Roatan to my teammates! I've run the beach each morning (a whole 2 mornings!) and have been trying to be healthy while enjoying the occasional "fun" rum based based beverage. I was also disciplined enough to do a resistance band workout (much to my family's amusement). It's now time to head back out to the beach...or pool.....
Go Five for Fighting!!!

Sunday, February 21, 2010

Boy, I had a fun week, however not as disciplined as I should have been! Can't wait to get back with the team, even thought I anticipate the HURT!

Perils of Vacation week and not working out

So I don't know how it happened but I haven't been able to get a workout in since Weds and my legs, back and knees are actually tight and more sore for NOT working out .... THIS makes me look forward to getting back on track tomorrow!!!

Hope Mr. Drake is treating Ricky well and looking forward to seeing K1 tomorrow!

OUCHHH!

Ok just when you think that the post workout burn can get no worse what happens....Dean nearly kills us with an awesome leg workout. Mind you between 4pm and 5pm yesterday there was a funny vision on the floor of FFY - four women trying their hardest not to look like they had lost their horses- yes some very strange walks were going on after that workout! Still great going girls- very sore today I must say especially up and down the stairs and of course when you sit on the "throne" ..OUCH again. Not sure I can handle squats today in body pump!
By the way congrats to Rickey on team RK2 on the arrival of his little bundle ...will this slow you down in the workout department...we are catching you...BEWARE!!

Sal's pizza set back

So, I was actually not so naughty in the food department over the Valentine's day weekend (I actually took my own carrots and clementines to eat at the movies instead of delighting in my usual ultra-buttered popcorn and Sprite!)...but in a crazy moment of weakness (and I was overly famished) I devoured one of Sal's "slices" (aka - a 1/4 of a pie) just an hour before our team in training workout - and since I try not to do anything half-as#ed, I got my favorite combo of mushrooms, olives and pepperoni. Sorry team! But I promise I will work hard to make up for it! So today my inner thighs and obliques are feeling the effects of yesterday's workout plus the bonus session with Dean (yipee for extra points!) and am psyched to head out to Charlene's Body Pump tonight since my kiddos are still out of town (gotta love the grandparents!). Am really sad to think that T-in-T is almost over. The accountability and camaraderie has just been awesome.

Don't feel TOO guilty about having your Valentine's treats!

Could Eating DARK Chocolate Be Healthy for You?

Chocolate is often something which is recognized as "poison," or something that you should not eat. It is often put to blame for various types of health effects, such as obesity, acne and even the cavities that you get in your teeth. However, what you may not know is that there are various types of benefits which are associated with eating dark chocolate. Here, we will take a closer look at these benefits, which may encourage you to want to eat more dark chocolate in the future.

What are the Health Benefits of Dark Chocolate?

1. One of the best ways to lower your risks of developing cancer is by consuming foods which are high in anti-dioxidants, such as fruits and vegetables. Well, cocoa also contains anti-dioxidants. By eating dark chocolate, you will actually be decreasing your risk of developing cancer.

2. A recent study has shown that dark chocolate has the ability to lower your blood pressure, since it contains flavonoids. The experiment consisted of two groups, one of which who ate dark chocolate and another who ate the same amount of white chocolate once a day for fifteen days. The group who ate the dark chocolate did have a decrease in blood pressure.

3. The flavonoids which are found in dark chocolate are also known to help the blood flow more smoothly through blood vessels, as well as increase the amount of blood that can flow to the brain. This will decrease your risks of having a heart attack in the long run.

4. Dark chocolate also contains phenylethylamine, which is known to work as an aphrodisiac. It works by stimulating the nervous system, which ultimately will give people sensual feelings, along with the feeling of being in love.

5. The truth is that chocolate is actually known to be very beneficial to your teeth, which is probably the exact opposite of what you always been told. There are certain substances in the cocoa of chocolate which are known to actually kill off the bacteria that causes your tooth decay, resulting in cavities.

*Keep in mind that, when it comes to any of these health benefits, the only type of chocolate that will be able to provide you with them are dark chocolate.

Why is Dark Chocolate Healthier than Milk Chocolate?

Although many people tend to prefer milk chocolate, the truth in the matter is that it does not have the healthy benefits to offer that dark chocolate does. The main reason is because chocolate which contains higher levels of cocoa offers the highest number of healthy advantages. What this means is that chocolate containing higher levels of cocoa such as dark chocolate can provide you with more health benefits than milk chocolate, which mainly contains added sweeteners, can. White chocolate, on the other hand, does not even contain any levels of cocoa. This is great news for dark chocolate lovers though!

Should You Eat More Chocolate?

Although you know that dark chocolate can provide you with many health benefits, one of the main questions that you may have is how often you should actually eat chocolate. The most important thing that you should keep in mind is that, regardless of the health benefits it can provide you with, you should never overdo the amount of chocolate that you eat. While everything in moderation is okay, chocolate will make you gain weight if you decide to eat it too frequently, just like any other food will. Eating a small piece of chocolate each day will not hurt as much as you would have thought though!

A first

The end of Week 5 is here. Ran on the treadmill for the first time for 20 minutes, a definite accomplishment for me. A true sign that team training is worth the time and energy, especially at 5 am.

BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it's been a long day since I found out at 2:15 am that our vacation flight, scheduled to depart Logan at 5:45, was cancelled. Our entire vacation was over before it started! Needless to say, it has been very stressful. But, on a good note, my Five for Fighting teammates (and leader, too), I have one more week to work towards my bathing suit readiness! We were able to rebook the whole thing for the following week, so I'll see you all Monday night! I will definitely have some stress-energy that I'll need to burn off, so, Lisa, bring it on!

WEEK 5

Ok so all is going great with the workouts - loving the variety we are getting with the team workouts the only problem now is that i have developed plantar facitis! Painful left foot but am determined to work through the pain...however I need to learn to listen to my body more, I did take yesterday off (feel guilty though) but managed to do body pump this morning with no adverse effects. Love doing step but that will have to take a sideline this week I think since my foot was killing afterwards and the next day...ho hum ...all in the name of Team Training! That's dedication for you ....or madness...not sure which?! Have a great Valentine's Day everyone and Aya watch out for that chocolate!

Week 5 - Legless

Alright everyone, this has been a crazy week. My lovely and perfect wife, Denise, has been in and out of labor for the better part of this week. As such, I am torn between cheering her on ("PUSH! Wait, no, STOP!") and driving back and forth to the hospital. The doctors were kind enough to send us home at 2:30 AM on Sunday morning, and during the trip home we hit a f&^#$ing deer. Standing above our unfortunate victim, my wife looked down at her belly and stated "You'd better go to college." My progeny responded by kicking and sending my wife into another contraction. Such is life.

Meanwhile, OBC has been killing us at the gym. Presently, I have no legs. None. They are gone. I am one walking lunge away from double amputation, but she just keeps on going. The results are beginning to show, and for that I am grateful and happy. But, while I push through the pain and lack of lower extremities, I will take solace in the fact that one doesn't need legs to hold a baby. I cannot wait to welcome Mr. Drake Jefferson Glover into this world.

Six Packs!

Yesterday we used the wheel to cruch the stomache...that was hard. Looking forward to spinning again. Everyone on the team is looking great. It is so much fun to exercise with my team.

vacation?!?!?!?

OK, Five for Fighting teammates, I'm getting nervous now. I'm hoping I can keep up with our progress when I'm away next week. The support we've been giving one another will be missed, and I'm hoping my son can do a good Lisa imitation and push me to: 1) workout daily and 2) push myself.

See you tonight for one final treadmill/bike session!

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

AB-TASTIC!

So my abs are sooo sore from this week's work outs but I know it is all worth it! I'm worried though that as we head into the Valentine's Day weekend, my willpower and ability to bypass (well, almost) most chocolate on a daily basis will be tested to the extreme. Looking forward to Zumba class this Sunday which I haven't been able to do this winter because of my kids' ski team commitment. Happy Valentine's Day to all...

wow - 5 weeks and seeing a difference

I must say that I struggled with the first 4 weeks - just in getting into the gym enough but now after 2 of Charleene's Body Combat classes and weekend yoga I am fully in the swing of things. Looking forward to getting team RK2 back in first position!!!

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

halfway there!

Can't believe we're going into Wk 5 already. I don't want week 8 to get here....in fact, I'm freaking out about it. I don't want to stop our sessions (it would be awesome if my team just kept meeting and doing the workouts on our own - what do you think ladies - you up for it?????) I don't want to lose ground, this has been so great (and incredibly motivating). Well, gotta get some sleep (ok, not right now....after Lost!) so I can be ready for our workout tomorrow. TEAM ROYALTY ROCKS (but thanks to Kristin we're loosing the ROLL :):):)!!!!!!

Team Five for Fighting!

Great work out tonight. I especially liked the exercises with the resistance bands and the warrior lunges..... Let's keep it going!

Team Royal-ty

Great work out today team Royal-ty! Let's keep up the great work.

working hard works

So, we had a super bowl party yesterday. As I was running around hostessing, my husband kept stopping me to tell me how great I looked. He can't get over how much my body has changed. Parts that were sad and defeated after having two babies, are now firmer and stronger. Kristin....my husband thanks you for the five hundred and fifty million squats you have made us do. Seriously....I don't even think that is an exaggeration. I'll see team Fired Up tomorrow morning....you guys are so much fun.....yes, even at 5:00 am!

Sunday, February 7, 2010

wow i've made progress

First, I would like to say that I have the best team mates! Kristin and Team Fired Up are such an inspiration and keep me motivated even when I am not at a team session. They are always with me in spirit. This past weekend I spent about 7 hours frying up homemade tortilla chips. (side biz) Typically when making batches of these I sample more than just a few times but I resisted those spicy, greasy temptations. I snacked on grapefruit, yogurt, cliff bar and drank lots of water. I just kept thinking how far myself and my team had come in just 4 weeks and my usually irresistible chips did not hold a flame to my will power. Thank you Team Training and FFY for this great opportunity! Thank you Team Fired Up for your commitment to yourselves and our team!

I'm ready for a SIX-PACK!

So this was a crappy week...broke my phone, craziness at work, but the bright spots were my workouts with the Dean and the Six-Packs...so while I was at first disappointed with the numbers on the scale (and thought - this just figures with the week I've had), I know that my body is getting stronger and I am building more muscle and losing some pudge. So although I'd like to reach for a cool, frosty six-pack, I am working hard to create a six-pack...and it's all due to team training that I feel motivated and accountable. Thanks Team!

Thursday, February 4, 2010

HALF TIME!

Wow we have made it to week 4 no problems! This has been a wonderful experience and I am feeling really great at the moment. Hopefully the motivation and dedication will continue for the rest of the team challenge and beyond! Team Six Pack rock - great fun and great motivators and we really do work hard during our workouts with Dean. Watch out Ricky we are hot on your tail! Look after yourselves- remember to listen to your body and eat well and rest well.

Six Pack Weighs In!

I reached my 4 week goal and I am so glad. However, I have lost these pounds before so I consider them my "stalker pounds". Putting more pounds between us will really confuse them...that I have never done.

Week 4 - Fired Up!

Team FIRED UP we are half-way there. I cannot believe it has been four weeks since we started Team Training, seems and sometimes feels like yesterday.

Thanks team for the support and inspiration. I could not imagine doing this without you.

Thanks Kristin for your help on this rewarding journey.

Remember, it is not hard, it is challenging!

Week 4 - Am I Falling for Spinning?

The Team Training experience has been amazing thus far. My team is awesome, hella funny, and motivated. I feel great, hella good, and motivated. And I've stumbled upon the upstairs of the gym and its classes (literally - I almost bit it big time in BodyStep due to condensation issues).

The biggest surprise for me has been spinning. I freaking love it! I'm not sure what it is, but something in the combination of the music, the camaraderie, and the crazy crazy sweatiness (this should be noted: You WILL sweat in spin class. It's unavoidable. And it's not job interview sweat or "did I forget the milk?" sweat, it's hot desert stroll sweat or sweating sickness sweat. True story.) just works for me. As such, I, in all my (four week) experience with said class, officially endorse this practice and recommend it to all my fellow team trainers. Have fun!

Team FiRED up!

Get ready!

OK, teammates of Five For Fighting, Lisa gave me the big warning tonight that she is really going to put us through our paces tomorrow. You know if it's a work out that made her tired, we're really in for a challenge. Get some good rest tonight- we're going to need all the energy we can muster to make her proud tomorrow!

Six Packs!

Half way to the big goal! Everyone is looking great although we all are finding new reasons to complain about aches. Wonderful to be so active and eating right. Can't wait to see the girls this afternoon.

Week 3 Six Packs!!

I have been nursing a hip strain so sitting and standing have been difficult apart from the workouts with Dean. My team is amazing. These women work hard and sweat a lot. That is a poke bc someone commented I wasn't sweating as much...I am injured. Seriously, my teammates are an inspiration to me. We all work and have families and some have young kids to shuffle and they make the time to fulfill this commitment to themselves, the team and Dean. I am very impressed!!

Here is to a big week coming up and having a great weekend of staying the course and putting yourself first bc this is your time to reach this fitness goal.

Friday, January 29, 2010

Joining Team Training was probably the best thing I've done for myself in a very, very long time. I almost didn't sign up for it but now I'm so happy that I did. My teammates are great and Kristin is the best. Before Team Training, I would go to the gym twice a week for classes and those tended to be the same ones every week. Rarely worked out downstairs. I knew I needed a major kick in the butt and doing this has been everything I could have hoped for and more. It's given me motivation, knowledge, fun and challenged me to be the best I can be. I'm so proud of myself for just DOING IT!!! It's definitely hard work but I can see the rewards on the horizon. (and it's actually made me WANT to work out more....which for me is UNREAL!)

So Kristin, keep kicking my butt until it's black and blue (ROYAL blue that is) and up behind my neck :):)

Thank you thank you thank you too much!!!!!!

A Message to All Teams

As we enter week 4 it is important to keep in mind that every workout you put forth you are accomplishing a goal--a goal to take it one day at a time, one workout at a time and the shared desire you (all of you) set forth to begin 3 weeks ago. Please don't become so hooked on what you missed, but to look ahead to what you will gain. Stay strong, motivated, and in the game.

Week 3 Winds Down

Dude......

So, I am completely inspired by everyone on the blog, and it is amazing to see the positivity from all of my fellow Team Trainers. And, I'm feeling like I need to rely on some of this because this week, for me, has been hard. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm feeling crazy tired. I can feel my body changing in a positive way, and I have definitely put on some muscle in just three weeks. The scale hasn't changed for me, but I'm hoping that will turn around soon. I'm trying to stay positive, and the Julies helped out a great deal last night at Pump. Plus my girl Charlene was doing all that she could to keep us going, and the Kelly(i)s are awesome team members. But it felt hard.

We are supposed to use the blog to state when it is tough, and, well, this week has been that. I need to reboot! Alright, enough of that, I'll bring it starting this weekend, but just thought I would share. If you see me, tell me to suck it up.

Oh, and I'm not the best cook, but here's a good healthy recipe:

1 1/2 cup kale
1 package Tofu Lin tofu (available at Whole Foods)
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon olive oil

1. De-stem the kale, wash it, and chop it coarsely.
2. Slice the tofu into small chunks.
3. Crush the garlic and quickly sautee it in the oil.
4. Add the kale to the garlic, wilting slightly. Add the vinegar to the kale to preserve color.
5. Throw in the tofu and sear it a bit to add a crunch.

Enjoy! Add red pepper flakes for flavor if you would like. (By the by, kids hate this....but it's worth a try.)

Feeling Great

It was so wonderful this morning when I put on a pair of my work pants and found that they had extra room in them! It goes to show that the effort Five for Fighting is putting forward is paying off, even in 2 1/2 weeks. Lisa PUSHED us tonight and it was great. This whole experience is rewarding: new friends, new workout routines, new bathing suits..... :)
End of Week 3.....

Tonight was extremely challenging! Lisa had us going non-stop for the entire hour. Just when you would begin to catch your breath, she would throw something else at you....this is exactly what I signed up for. See you on Saturday Lisa for spin and body pump!!

Five For Fighting is in the LEAD!

Congratulations to our team on taking the week 2 lead, let's keep it up and widen the margin! I know we all made great progress tonight thanks to Lisa.

Feelin' those SIX PACKS!

So we're almost to the half way mark and I'm feeling good...strong...and generally more healthy (might be all that chocolate I've tried to cut out!). Dean has introduced me/us to some great new cardio workouts on the elliptical (which is really new to me) and on the treadmill (although I almost killed myself getting off too fast!). I'm hoping that while my body's appearance on the outside doesn't look too different that the big difference will be in my body fat percentage - which I'm hoping has dropped since we started. Rockin' and rollin' the SIX PACKS are awesome, fun and keep me going - and of course Dean is great! Thanks everyone! -Aya

Extra credit info and quote of the day

The extra credit for the week is bringing in a healthy recipe - if you post it to the blog it will count as well. So you have 3 ways of submitting the recipe 1. by blog 2. by e-mail or 3. by bringing it in to your trainer or Kristin.

Wow! I am so proud of Team FIRED UP. All four of us showed up Tuesday...3 recovering from the stomach flu and 1 with a head cold. Knowing that we were all relying on each other and motivating each other helped us get through a great workout with Kristin. I have to think if it wasn't for Team Training we would have all choosen to stay in bed!
Way to go team...can't wait to see you all again tomorrow morning!

Body Combat - ouch!

So needless to say, Body Combat worked places I had forgotten about! It was great though for reminding me what my body used to feel like and fueled my desire toget back into shape! Rickey and Kelly are such an inspiration - go team RK2!!

Healthy recipes

Can the trainers access our "created recipes" on Daily Burn.com? Not sure how to email it from there.
Let's go everyone ....... Let's Kick But!!!!! I'm so embarrassed that not only did I come in 4th, but that Kristin won her own 26 mile marathon challenge! Very sad!!!! :(

Great workout with Steve and the girls yesterday. Totally, loving the pull-ups with the bands. I felt fabulous after the workout and I can't believe how many calories I'm burning during our workout. Had tons of energy through out the day... Can't wait until our next workout on Thursday.

BODYPUMP ROCKED

8:15 am brought some sleepy members into the launch of BODYPUMP 72! But once the blood started pumping, the energy soared. Who needs coffee?? (ahhhh....I do!)

Great to have some team training participants in class this morning. Awesome job everyone. Special thanks to my instructor team of Lisa and Darci for all your hard work in preparing for the class. You all Rock!
See you tomorrow at BODYCOMBAT 42!
Stay in the fight!

#1 Motivators

Thanks to Lisa and my teammates for being such awesome motivators! Never in my recent life would I have thought I was capable of getting up before dawn on a Saturday, going to the gym to reserve a bike before 6:50 am, completing a 7:15 am spinning class followed by a new release of BodyPump. Having them encourage and motivate me to push on and through it has really left me feeling great (a bit sore and tired, but good sore and tired)!

Week two fun!

It has been a blast to meet my own team members on RK2 and Purple Haze, but also meet all the other team training participants. You have taken on Team Training with strength, determination and motivation! I have loved seeing new faces...and returning faces to classes; its a great way to add variety to your wokout week.

Keep in the game everyone! On behalf of the FFY training team...we are impressed with your work!

See you Sunday at 9:25am when we fight for our fitness in BODYCOMBAT !

The VIEW -Week 2

Observation from six feet five inches,
Well, you can tell the intensity has picked up w/ our trainers and you have meet the challenge head on " Awesome!

The bond between teammates has grown stronger. Now is the time to put all that soreness you felt the 1st week in the rear view mirror .
What you felt is defined as (DOMS -delayed onset muscle soreness) the good thing is as long as you continue to work out you will not have to experience that intense feeling again -one really good reason to keep working out GO FFY.
Donny

The Barometer Test of Strength has been raised

Pink Team listen up. Week 2 team train is completed, BUT there are 6 more weeks of which we will climb higher and stronger than imagined. Stay positive and in the game. GO TEAM!

InspiRED - by my red team.

This blog is AWESOME! It is fun, interactive, motivating, different, and I think most importantly honest and real. Keep them coming… I think I’ll share a little bit about my workout today…

Today, I logged on to dailyburn and saw I had some catching up to do on the Marathon Challenge. I hopped on the treadmill and it started out to be one of those days where each mile was a struggle. I thought to myself why are some days harder than others? Are they physically more challenging? Or is it mental? Well, today I wasn’t sore from anything, I had eaten a well-balanced breakfast and lunch, I should have been good to go! I focused on how I was feeling – I realized I was thinking about how I was aggravated because my heart rate monitor strap was loose, kept sliding down and I wasn’t getting an accurate reading, I then forgot to go to the bathroom prior to hoping on the treadmill so I had that annoying I need to pee thought running through my mind (don’t we hate when that happens?! J) I was focusing on all the bad – I was looking for any “excuse” to end my workout early so I could go home for the day. Then I thought about my day – it started with TEAM FIRED UP at 5am. I thought of how hard they worked, and pushed through the wall sits and race car drivers. Would I stop if I had the team with me? HECK NO! I am a part of this team – I can’t stop just because they aren’t here and won’t know. I thought of how much they have inspired me in just a short week and a half! I started thinking of all the good things – the positive thoughts – and my run started getting better and better. I started at 6.0 mph dragging, and finished 5 miles strong at 8.5 mph.

So thank you TEAM FIRED UP for motivating me and pushing me through today. I have seen you all push each other, encourage one another, and grow individually as well as together. Today the team was my fuel to keep going! The best part of team training so far is how everyone is making everyone else better. It is so fun! Keep up the hard work, never be satisfied, and remember “if you believe it, you’ll be it!”

Well into week 2

Ok Team Six Pack are really thriving on this team training venture. We are all getting so much fitter already and our bodies seem to be changing too which is great- we won't recognise ourselves by the end of the 8 weeks. We are all really motivated and enjoying the butt kicking we are getting from Dean -bring it on! GO TEAM SIX PACK!
Julie

Week 2 Six Packs

Yesterday's workout was really great and I am feeling it today. Our team looks great, I can't believe the difference in just two weeks. My energy level is soaring.

Week 2 Progress

The past nine days have been truly awesome. I've tried four new classes:

1. BodyPump - Ashley subbed and killed it (and me), but it was an amazing workout and I loved some on the songs. They are filling the iPod this week.
2. Spinning - Probably the most difficult class I've done this far, but Andrea was a great motivator and the class was actually a lot of fun. Leg's were falling off, so I thought it would be a great idea to do....
3. YogaFit - on the same morning. An ambitious move, but my legs were severely feeling it by the time I made it to....
4. BodyStep - where my girl Charlene let me know that men can do this as well. I have been informed that I have mad steppin skills, and I look forward to doing it again.

All said, it is great. I was always jealous of those who seemed to enjoy, nay crave, working out. Working out was a part of them, and they didn't feel right if they couldn't exercise regularly. I am getting to that point, and it is a wonderful feeling. I get the high, and it rubs off on the rest of my life.

Let's keep it going.

5 For Fighting Showed Up....

...and truly worked hard on Monday night. Good work ladies. You have now raised the bar as to what is to come in the upcoming weeks.

Week 2

Feeling great! I'm very motivated by everyone @ the gym. Another good thing is that by watching my diet on Daily Burn, I really think about what I'm eating. I'm cooking great, low fat recipies that my family is LOVING! So we're all eating healthier and cleaner.

Feeling Fabulous

Here we are heading into Week 2! I had an outstanding long weekend of eating heathy and staying on track. I'm feeling fabulous after a great workout with my team this morning. How can I keep this motivation and feeling going for the rest of the 8 weeks? It always seems to dwindle right around the 4 week mark...

Feeling It

Wow! After going to my first Combat class on Sunday, and then having Lisa push us last night at our team workout, I'm really feeling it, "the burn", and it feels GREAT!
It has been an awesome first week, and I have to say that one of the most helpful tools has been the Dailyburn.com nutrition log. It really does help you look at what you're eating while trying to lose the weight, helping you make good choices. So much easier than trying to follow a prescribed diet.

What is your favorite song(s) to work out to?

My iPod is one thing that gets me through the toughest parts of my cardio workout. I like to put my favorite workout songs on when I need that extra kick I need to keep going.

I think this will be a great blog topic because you might get a new song or two that you end up loving as well and adding to your workout playlist! :)
Here's a few songs you'd find on my current workout mix:
  • Replay- Iyaz
  • Love Drunk - Boys like Girls
  • The Adventure- Angels and Airwaves
  • Creed- Rain
  • Run me in the dirt - Marty James

Taking off the post natal rose colored glasses

Two kids in three years puts a serious set of rose colored glasses on your eyes ... I'm now 6 months post the birth of my second son and this last week really woke me up and reminded me how strong my body could be again. I ran a 7 mile race the summer my first born was 18 months and I worked so hard to get there .... it's so exciting to be working to get back to that place again! There's nothing like accountability to others to get a sleep deprived mother of two inspired to get into the gym.

"Nothing will work unless you do."

How is everyone doing this weekend? I hope everyone feels great about the hard work and dedication they put in for week 1. Don't let it slide this weekend - be good! It's a beautiful (relatively speaking for January) day out today - anyone work out outside? I saw a few people come in to the gym this morning. Dean's team looked good today! Send some updates...

Look out for a Team Training Week 2 E-mail tomorrow :)

The VIEW from the GM

A view from six feet five inches:

It gives me great pride when I see my staff put so much time & effort into a project that they genuinely care about and see it unfold this week in such a positive response. The buzz on the gym floor is amazing. And that buzz is coming from everyone! Our team training participants are excited and motivated and having a blast staying focused on their new goals that they are determined to make reality. Team training participants - you inspire the rest of the members here, you keep it fun on the floor and there is something to be said about power in #'s... thank you.

Keep it going strong!
Donny

OH NO the WEEKEND is HERE!

I don't know about anyone else but I find weekends to be the hardest...by far. I'm so "on task" all week with my workouts and eating and then the weekends come...and let's just say I throw caution to the wind! For me, it's all very black and white. I'm either good or not good. Let's say I have an "event" on both Friday & Saturday nights...well then I usually decide the weekend is a lost cause and I might as well eat crap for the entire time! I'm trying very hard not to do this...which leads me to not want to go out at all for the entire weekend (which doesn't make my husband very happy at all)!
Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on how you handle this? I could really use them considering between this weekend and next I have about 5 events that involve food (doesn't everything?!)!
Oh and I thought I'd pass along this little tidbit about dailyburn. When I plugged in my weight it gave me a VERY high range of calories for the day....too high in my opinion...but when I plugged in my body fat it adjusted to an appropriate range.
Have a HEALTHY weekend everyone!

Starting fresh

This first wek has been great! I feel extremely motivated and am excited to be a part of ths program. Its honestly been a while since I've been to a gym. The past few years I've been working full time, going to school full time, and dealing with life's up' s and down's. One things for sure - my weight certainly isn't down! I'm engaged now, and am looking forward to a new start, and I want to start fresh. No more excuses. I want to be the best me. I want to feel healthy, and I want to feel youthful. I want my new life with the man of my dreams to be the one I always dreamed of. The one where I am willing to go bike riding while on our honeymoon without being worried people will laugh at the "fat girl" on the bicycle.

Sweat for Me Six Packers

Hi ladies (and Dean),
Out of town on business -- I had reserved a room at the Ritz attached to the LA Sports Club just so I could get some serious workouts in. Only to find, the hotel was overbooked and they provided me with a gigantic suite at the Georgetown Ritz Carlton instead. Restaurants and shopping on the doorstep in lieu of the LA Sports Club.

I'll have to make Week 2 a killer :-) See you soon,

Julia

Never Been More Motivated

Anyone else have a baby, lose the weight, but still feel like you certainly don't look like you used to??? Well, that's me. I find that I get complacent in my diet/workouts because I can say I "lost the baby weight". The part I leave out is that I wasn't happy with my weight before getting pregnant. Soooo......now is the time for me to kick it in gear and get serious about regaining my shape, but more importantly my CONFIDENCE. I don't want to wear a cover-up by the pool! My biggest roadblock has been my love of white wine.....I RUIN my workouts at night when I have a few glasses of wine. They probably add up to 400 friggin calories....that takes jogging over 4 miles on the treadmill to burn! And I wonder why I can't lose the fat around my stomach. No more excuses! This week has been amazing. Everyone on my team is so inspirational and positive. Who would have thought getting out of bed at 4:35am would be sooo worth it? Thanks for being an awesome team Fired Up! See you tomorrow morning for cardio!

Week 1 - Sore and Ready to Keep it Up!

I am on Charlene's team, and the two Kelly(i)'s and I are already rockin! I'm not sure about anyone else, but week 1 left me crazy-sore. Yet, it's the good sore, the sore that reassures you are doing something for yourself and your team. Between the soreness and dailyburn.com, signs point to big changes.

Can't wait to keep it up with BodyPump (my first ever) this evening! Let's go R-Kelly(i)'s!!! (Proposed team name, though it may have bad implications with his past transgressions - I dunno, probably should go with Blue Bitches anyway).

Use it & Lose it!

Hey Kristin, and the Royalty Team! I finally figured out how to post!!! I'm real excited to be starting week 2 soon! Week one was fun getting to know my teammates and getting use to the painful yet rewarding new exercises. C U @ the gym!

I am on Dean's team

I met the other girls Monday. We have to figure out a team name but we all agree the t-shirts are...not flattering! Last year I started working out with Dean after an illness and the realization that my youngest child was turning ten and I had not lost the "baby weight." I gained 70 lbs with that pregnancy...yes, it was fun eating with abandon. I lost 10 lbs with Dean's help but I have another ten (at least) to go. So, if not now... when and if not with a group of dedicated team members...how?

Ready, Set, Go!

So yesterday the Six Packs got ready to rock and roll and take on this great challenge. I'm psyched that I now will be able to make working out a priority...it's always the first thing to go when work and life get too busy (or I'm too tired or too lazy!). There's always an excuse - not this time! Looking forward to having fun and being motivated by our great trainer, Dean, and the women on our team...and getting more fit along the way!

My biggest challenge will be eating better...my mantra has always been that chocolate, cheese and butter makes everything better (well, they do - that's just a fact!)...but now that I'm getting older it's just making my butt bigger. Poo. So trying to scale back - everything in moderation - is what I'm aiming for at this point.

First Day of Team Training

Today was DAY ONE of this journey called TEAM TRAINING!! I'm so excited to make a change, try new workouts and see some SERIOUS changes in ME! I know with the support of the team and Kristin, that I can make this happen! Unfortunately I start every new adventure with this enthusiasm and then is slowly fades.... I'm not going to let it this time. I'm thinking maybe this daily blog will help?! I've never "blogged" before so we shall see.
I might as well put my goals out there for everyone to see, that will help my accountability.
Goals:
1. Get HEALTHY! This means making my health a priority by working out and eating food for fuel (and not because I had a bad day, or a good day, or a so-so day...or just because it's a day!).
2. Log into www.dailyburn.com everyday and record what I put into my body (whether I'm happy with it or not).
3. Meet my workout goals. At least 5 times a week...can I do 6?

That's a start......

THE TIME IS NOW!

The Beginning is Always Today!...
According to estimates, 45 percent of Americans will make fitness and weight loss resolutions in the New Year. Unfortunately, statistics show that within a few weeks, many of these goals begin to fade, and after a few months, most are replaced by a return to old habits.
Reasons Team Training will help...
A support system » The more people you have rooting for you, the better. Having a workout group with goals and objectives similar to yours is a great way to stay motivated and achieve success with fitness goals. Team Training will leave less opportunity for boredom, creates an environment of friendly competition and provides accountability to keep you in check.
It will hold you accountable » We'll set you up with an online journal so that you can take an honest look at your choices. For example, what excuses do you typically give yourself when you don't feel like working out or counting calories? In a study of more than 1,500 people conducted by the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research, it was revealed that participants keeping a food diary more than five days of the week lost almost twice as much weight as those who didn't, and were able to keep the weight off.
Whatever your excuses are, write them down. Coming to terms with what may have stopped you from reaching your goals in the past is key, so that you don't slip back into self-defeating patterns of behavior.
Be positive » Successful people are driven by two things: an unwavering belief in themselves and an excitement about the future. The way you talk to yourself can be empowering, energizing, keep you focused and motivated or it can create stress and zap your energy.
To move forward with confidence, keep your eyes on what you want and understandthe power you have to make a positive difference in your own life. Setting small and realistic goals is also important, as is celebrating each achievement and patting yourself on the back for a job well done.
Use exercise as your stress buster » Stress is a major trigger for overeating, fatigue and subsequent avoidance of exercise. Study after study demonstrates that being active keeps stress at bay because it changes body chemistry for the better, relieving depression and anxiety, and reducing feelings of anger, sadness and irritability.
As little as 20 to 30 minutes a day is enough to begin improving mood, health and level of fitness. Each exercise session builds on the next, and so as you give yourself regular doses, you will begin to notice improved strength, stamina, endurance and sense of well-being.
Be patient » Generally speaking, allow yourself about three weeks for exercise to become a habit. And if you are overweight or out of shape, acknowledge that it took time to get that way, and it will take time for pounds and inches to be lost.
The length of time it takes to reach goals varies tremendously from person to person. On average, it takes about 12 weeks of diligence to diet and exercise to see significant changes, such as having to buy smaller clothes.
